My Opinion on Key Largo Undersea Park aka Jules

As a central feature of my site, I want to share my personal summaries and opinions of the dive sites I’ve explored. I often looked for a younger diver’s perspective on these locations, and when I couldn’t find one, I decided to create it myself. Please return often and search for the sites you are interested in and you just may find I have been there!

My Opinion:

Key Largo Undersea Park is one of my absolute favorite places to visit. With Ocean First and MarineLab on-site, there’s always something exciting happening—from marine research to dive training. The lagoon is full of life and discovery, and even a few friendly facility cats roam the grounds. What truly makes it special, though, are the people who run it—they create an unforgettable atmosphere. Between the marine life, location, and vibrant community, it’s a place I never get tired of exploring. Manatees are often visiting as they love the hose water and drainage from the dive gear rinse station. Be sure to check out the walls of the crew space for divers as there are measurements for hurricane water level heights. At times even iguanas will hop in and glide with you. While I have done training and assisted in training here, it’s fun to just take your time to explore- it’s never the same dive twice!

Jules Undersea Lodge – I LOVED it. I cannot wait to go back if ever given the opportunity to. Diving underwater to the moon bay to take off your gear and realize you are under water- there is nothing like it! I was able to dive in belongings for one stay and that was pretty cool, I loved seeing how it all worked and how they make sure electronics and all other items get there dry and safely. The bathroom is kind of weird but it was fun to explore the facility. Ricky delivered some amazing pizza, this was a must as I had seen it several times on YouTube. Don’t forget to sign the visitors book! I wont lie, I looked back on Ryan Trahan’s entry because he was one of the first people I watched on YouTube stay down there. If money wasn’t an issue I would love to create or even break the record of how long a youth lived underwater!

Lagoon Overview:

  • Maximum Depth: Approximately 30 feet (9.1 meters) at its deepest point.
  • Typical Dive Depth: The entrance to the lodge is about 21 feet (6.4 meters) below the surface, with the structure elevated 5 feet (1.5 meters) above the lagoon floor.
  • Water Conditions: The lagoon is sheltered by mangroves and man-made structures, ensuring calm waters even when offshore conditions are rough.
  • Training Facilities: Equipped with platforms and down lines, the lagoon serves as a prime location for scuba training, including PADI certifications.
